I’m fascinated by construction. I dabbled in the field for a few years when I transitioned into tech. I also was an engineer in the military. Every time I drive by a construction site, my wife jokes that I’ll prefer to crash vs. not look at how something is being constructed. It’s very true. Our family drives by a lot of construction sites, namely the Miami Archs (picture below). Construction gave me the best foundation to learn software. It’s an almost 1:1, relatively, learning process. This image from a repost by Patrick Collision, on his aesthetic tour, reminds me such things. Most don’t know that concrete is barely concrete and mostly rebar that can suspend on its own and support most of the weight, but isn’t smart if you want to support dynamic pressure, at different times, with different temperatures, and other factors like hurricanes. All this complexity, abstracted over time. And now new abstractions happening in the digital world now with AI. Did I say construction is cool?
