can you nix pill me in one cast ;D my current why I want to try it is because I love everything as code. GitOps is the way my current why I haven't tried: - ubuntu vm + macbook simply works for me - don't want to spend hours debugging my OS

Sure! First, I use nix primarily on my MacBook (though I run NixOS machines too). The biggest motivator for me was deterministic reproducibility for projects: I want to be able to cd project and immediately have all dependencies available and I want everyone else to have the same ones and I don’t care if Mac or Linux

Sorry you said one cast haha but for NixOS I was sold when I installed an Nvidia driver and its configuration, a desktop manager and environment, some other daemons, all in one command, broke everything, and reverted back to working state with a single follow up command.

I’m pushing it with 3 casts now 🙈 but given the steep learning curve my suggestion would be to *not* jump directly to NixOS. You can use nix on your Ubuntu VM as a package manager and get your feet wet with it. https://zero-to-nix.com is the best documentation IMO
