This essay, titled "Jōmon Pottery Theory: Dialogue with the Fourth Dimension," was written in 1952 by Tarō Okamoto after his first encounter with Jōmon period art. After it came out and made some noise, Jōmon artifacts started to be seen as part of Japanese art history.
