I’ve just walked out of Wells Fargo, beyond frustrated. trying to close my late father’s account, and it’s been an absolute nightmare. The process is so convoluted that even their on bank staff & customer service give conflicting instructions. I get that banks don’t want to make it easy to close accounts but seriously, when the account belongs to someone who has passed away, and one has a death certificate ready, you’d expect at least a little compassion and clarity. But no. The system is archaic! archaic AF! ps> everyone should have a beneficiary on their bank account. If not, the beneficiary then needs to go to surrogate court to get documents to bring to the bank.
