On Sunday, my bf and I got off Metro at China Town station. There were many protesters there, people who had signs about ICE & Oligarchy and dressed in comfortable clothes for being outside in Southern California. My bf asked a group of 3 people about their day. They said, that it was mostly peaceful protest, but it was the first time they've ever been tear gassed, even though they've been to previous protests. My bf and I walked away from downtown and along the park. Towards the end of the park, quite a distance from the protests, two men, in all black with their faces covered in ski masks, walked towards downtown. They didn't have any signs. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-06-10/protesters-or-agitators-who-are-drivers-of-chaos-at-immigrations-protests

So the Mueller investigation uncovered how Russians literally used Facebook to get Americans to fight each other in real life. Not online drama, actual physical confrontations. Russian trolls created fake 'Blacktivist' pages pretending to be BLM supporters, then also run 'Heart of Texas' pages targeting conservatives. the crazy part: they'd organize rallies for BOTH groups at the same location at the same time, hoping people would show up and clash.

In Houston 2016, they pulled this off perfectly. Used fake Texas page to organize an anti-Islamic rally outside a mosque, then used other fake accounts to organize counter-protests at the same spot. Boom! Americans were potentially fighting while Putin laughed. The Social Dilemma breaks down why this works so well; Facebook's algorithms love angry content because it keeps you scrolling. The Great Hack showed how easy it is to exploit with all that personal data they collect. We saw the same playbook during 2020: outside agitators showing up to hijack legitimate protests and turn them chaotic. This is why I deleted Facebook. Everyone should watch: The Social Dilemma & The Great Hack Those were the best takeaways from my Covid lockdown days!
