Regardless of the fact that I was born here, I recognize the privileges I hold, and I firmly believe that having a camera and a platform comes with a responsibility, not a license to exploit. It would be completely contrary to my values to feature individuals, especially children, who have not given consent or who will never benefit from their image being circulated online. Something I consider deeply important when capturing videos or photographs of my country is avoiding what I personally regard as one of the most harmful visual narratives: the “National Geographic-style” imagery that echoes a colonial gaze. I am committed to ensuring that the dignity and privacy of those I film, especially children, are respected at all times. To that end, I will do everything in my power to obscure faces, particularly of minors. The internet is vast, permanent, and often unsafe. As someone who has worked with children in the education system, I am acutely aware of the risks and am determined not to contribute to them. Ethical storytelling matters, and I want to be accountable to the people and places I represent.

thank you for respecting the privacy and consent of those your lens captures 🙏 in an age where companies advertise their camera glasses to secretly record others and events its nice when someone cares what the subjects of the recording think

its truly terrifying to think about how as a society we have lost all respect for one another when it comes to privacy, i could go on a rant on western photographers specifically who feel incredibly entitled and dont respect their subjects.. even sometimes actually creating more problems for the people they take photos of
