the only people in crypto who care primarily about money are airdrop farmers everybody else cares primarily about if a) discovery / distribution and engagement, if they're a creator or b) utility and entertainment, if they're a consumer this is also true of most people in general

Mostly disagree with the creators part. Compare vimeo to youtube. Creators create to make a living, and to profit off their work. Platforms like youtube wouldn’t be as big as they are and have as many creators as they have without the ability to monetize their work. Vimeo died despite being more geared to creators because there’s no monetary incentive for them to post there other than to share portfolio work.

eh, YouTube won because it optimized discovery and distribution at massive scale, which then allowed them to offer better monetization. YouTube's discovery model was algo + related videos + google search with network effects, whereas Vimeo focused on direct links, embeds, and curated staff picks. Open and algorithmic vs. professional and curated. YouTube was only able to offer better monetization later on because they had already nailed distribution flywheel and discovery.

If the monetization didn’t exist alot of creators wouldnt be able to afford the time and effort to even create in the first place is more my point. Creators that get paid can create full time. Creators that don’t get paid can’t and rely on other work to survive and fund creative projects.

creators don't get paid unless they get good discovery / distribution first, no?
