Don't force users to add a profile pic at sign up. Use whether they add a pfp later a signal as to whether they care enough about their app identity to add one.

@nikitabier has made a counter point which I’ve come to appreciate which is that adding friction in onboarding is not always a bad thing. 

If it helps meaningfully with retention and engagement, it’s often worth doing. 

For us, requiring pfp only causes a 0.1% dropoff but makes real profiles look more legit and spammer easy to identify

First few weeks on the Farcaster team have been intense but I love it! It's super fulfilling getting to work on a product I've loved as a user and builder on for so long but also one I feel truly helps push the crypto space forward, with an incredible team and community

A few counter intuitive things we've learned building FC: 

1. Make people sign up on mobile

Push notifications and little red dots on the home screen are the lifeblood of social apps. Most users who sign up on web will simply forget to come back.

another thing that comes to mind is that $eggs wouldn't be possible if not for @base and @jessepollak — back in our zk days we only used polygon and ethereum mainnet and it wasn't ready for such a throughput

base handled 57k+ txs in 3 days like a champ, not a single issue and we don't even think about gas anymore

i genuinely believe warpcast has a shot at changing social media.

i've been testing anything i could get my hands on since i was a teenager. back then, i was sold on the idea of having full control over my data. with age, though, i’ve become a little less idealistic.

i still remember 2014, when ello.co came out. it made a lot of noise, and i wanted to believe. i was super active. some of my posts even went viral. it felt like it had potential. but then it pivoted into an artist-focused platform and quietly faded away.

what i love about warpcast is how diverse the content is. dev talk, memes, art, tech, travel, it’s all here. and while the feed doesn’t feel as curated as twitter or instagram (maybe just not enough volume yet?), there’s something else: people are actually enjoying it. not chasing incentives. not pretending. just showing up and vibing.

that's rare.
