Happy Mountain Monday! The highest mountain I ever climbed: Vallunaraju at 5686 meters in Peru.

I got altitude sickness on this climb. I had been in Peru for 3 weeks in high altitude and 2 other treks up to 4800 meters, but this climb put me over the top and I threw up all the way down. I did make it to the top though. No headache - just vomiting. After we arrived at base camp, I drank some coca tea and rested for an hour and then I was fine when we descended to Huaraz. What was your experience?

long story, not mountain climbing, just trekking for 3 days. Brilliant idea to try to do it without a stove since they didn't have the right cartridges for my stove in-country. Anyways, I recall having to take an extra day or so longer than anticipated as well as I couldn't move for an extended period.

cocoa tea does help (excellent vasoconstrictor.) Sudafed and decongestants are generally good short term as well. Biggest problem is blood vessels become to leaky.
