Vibe coded a quick Flows data viz:

makes it obvious how the way we split categories affects distribution. e.g. look at how much bigger the average Public Artwork flow is in comparison to the Nouns Art ones.

Voters don't take into account how many builders are in a flow category when assigning their votes

voters don't take the amount of grants into account when distributing their votes, bc the distribution in the top level is somewhat even, but when time comes to split between builders it's completely unbalanced because some of those categories have almost no competition

We need data visualization in that UI to help people make a better judgement

I think auto-distribution of funds is a bad idea. It's ok to have Nouners assign budgets to each category, but within those budgets there should be more deliberation on each grant size and accountability over the declared costs, instead of auto-expending it all

Builders must learn to budget and justify their expenses. If they want a bigger budget, they should justify the extra and show how they plan on expanding the impact with the additional funds.

The current model of a somewhat even distribution leaves some flows with more budget than justified and others with less than the bare minumum they need.

It also explicitly makes it a zero sum game between builders, and encorages them & supporters to create niche flow categories to reduce competition & get bigger flows.

Since this will always be a game of constrained resources allocation, I think any one size fits all mechanism will face those limitations. Each flow should have a custom budget.

ye this seems like things voters shouldnt bother w at all — solve algorithmically somehow
