the word emergency is actually pretty cool (emergence-y)
i had a personal emergency (I needed to poop).
i had a personal emergency (I spontaneously felt like lying down and watching the clouds in the park).
i had a personal emergency (someone offered me tickets to a concert).
this is NOT usage advice. committing to things is also good.
