It will be interesting to see how the TJ Watt Steelers situation continues to unfold. Still unavailable for today game and the Steelers still have chance make playoffs...
Watt suffered a partially collapsed lung reportedly after a dry needling procedure. Dry needling is performed to alleviate musculoskeletal/neuromuscular pain most commonly involving tendons or muscle fascia. Around the shoulder pathologies could include rotator cuff, proximal biceps, pectorals or around the scapula (ie trigger points).
A partially collapsed lung is a quite uncommon complication, but he must have suffered a symptomatic and decent sized one to require surgery.
No details right now if the procedure was performed by team sponsored healthcare professionals or private but…. Stay tuned. This one could have legal implications.
Know anyone who had tried dry needling? Have 🫵?
