To me it's not Internet preventing it,  Mark Fisher would call it "the market fundamentals of capitalism realism". Nostalgia sells, so why should artists, politicians etc take risks?  Fisher has a great quote; "to live in the 21st century is to have 20th century culture delivered to you through 21st century tech".

Rather than stuck, the future is slowly being canceled. In order to create something that captures large masses you need to repackage something old (for example the Eras tour) - can't be done by creating something new.
