I honestly think micropayment tipping could be a habit. Also could help with the problem of lurkers vs posters that most social has today I think you could even take it further when network grows and put every like as a micropayment say $0.005. Strong argument that this doesn’t scale though. But when we talk about money going back to “creators” this is where my head goes. Side note Everybody is a creator now. Need a new word. Users applies for an app like farcaster but still feels not descriptive enough. Whole creator economy thing feels overplayed cc @ted Side note 2: micropayments happen for consumer apps in web2 just hidden from user ie. Spotify, YouTube premium etc. I’d say at the moment the argument is stronger that abstracted away through subscription model is better for consumer but could change with something unique.

To me one of the most obvious use cases for micro payments is music. Artists on Spotify receive between .005-.007 for a listen, paid via your subscription. Truthfully can’t speak to the label, musician side. I should talk to somebody cc @garrett, @coopahtroopa.eth but if I had to guess the process would be 100x better if it was onchain and splits occurred. Everybody gets their cut instantly. No check from Spotify to label then to artist then to producers etc. Maybe labels/artists wouldn’t like the transparency. They also now have the data that connects them back to fans. Not sure most consumers would care that much. But personally I’d rather see how money I gave my most listened to artists rather than see them #1 (I already know that) Many gaps in my thinking here I’m sure. Obviously easier than done and Spotify has stranglehold on the industry. But something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately and same idea can be applied to other categories of consumer .
