what's the latest on channel distribution? if i cast in a channel do my followers see it on their timeline per usual or only the common denominator of my followers and the channel followers?

No difference in feed distribution atm. Only benefits of casting in channels right now are 1) organization and 2) the chance that people will see your cast while scrolling the channel feed (very few do this though).

no difference from regular channel-less casting, it's basically optional content organization

id like to know as well. from my own habits, i have found I have to manually go to the channels I like and browse. But a lot of times i am liking week old content in /tabletop cause it wasnt served to me in the feed earlier, so i am either not getting that far in my feed to see it (therefore buried) or it isnt getting shown to me.
