what i miss most about playing clubs it's hard to explain it there are these times where the dance floor is totally warmed up and people are fully tuned in AND you are fully in tuned with them and it feels like every track is landing with the room. there's a sort of flow state where you can just pick the next song effortlessly and mix it in just as well. a lot of the job is to warm up the crowd and read the crowd to be able to get to that point. and it doesn't always happen. as the opener (which i mainly was), your job is to make it as easy as possible for the headliner to reach that stage as early as possible in their set. that's one of the reasons i really liked closing sets

some big beginner mistakes are: 1. only play the crowds favorites. banger after banger. top 40 djs *have* to do this -- it's their job. but otherwise in techno/house scene it's a mistake. 2. playing your own favorite tracks. banger after banger. i really believe you have to really love every track you play. but it's a mistake to only play a track because you really like it. every track has a purpose. it's either meant to: 1. deliver an emotional response 2. set the stage for the track that will deliver the emotional response 3. maintain the flow after an emotional response and allowing the energy to build up for the next one

thanks for listening man! the pete tong academy is great - i haven't watched the technical parts (learning how to mix, etc.). i trust there's plenty there on the technical side in that course but if it wasn't sufficient there are tons of courses on how to mix etc and it's really easy to learn. - but there's a fair deal of content on the craft that i really enjoyed and really wish had something like this when i first started - there's a whole curriculum on how to get start in the real world (i haven't looked too deep into that either but looks to be very well thought out and well supported) i'd buy an flx4 and the pete tong academy course and just take it from there https://petetong-djacademy.com/

oh man this is epic. i sent myself a screenshot of this cast and will have it top of mind for when i feel that the time comes to invest in this gear and the course. i think it will bring something important to my life i have been listening to this set non stop for the last month and at the same time asking myself: why? what's so special about it? and what i feel is that music is such a powerful way to convey your relationship with the spirit in a way that is not literal. and i need that. i need a way to translate what i have inside to people without using words. but emotions through curation through the power of guiding their consciousness and body through a maze https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IetoelexsA4
