Again, I was on a beach alone. Again, full of stress ... this time financial. My husband is doing a startup that is having trouble with the "start" part. My daughter's a rising high school senior, so college tuition is looming. So yeah, I've been a hot mess. The ocean is my happy place, and if anything can calm me down, it's an early morning beach walk. So there I was, walking along, and what did I see but this beauty.

I used my long lens and kept my distance, but even if I hadn't, I think it would have just stayed there, doing its thing while I did mine.

Again, the longer I watched it, the calmer I felt. I don't know what it is about herons on the beach that do this to me ... my spirit animal, I guess.

I could have stayed there forever, but I had people to meet, so reluctantly I left it and walked just a little farther up the beach before turning around.

When I finished my walk and headed back in the same direction, I fully expected the heron to be gone. But no, JUST LIKE SIX YEARS AGO, as I was leaving I saw that it had found some fishermen to hang out with.
