airdrops used to be a way of rewarding the people who believed in you when you were nothing now they're just another way of trying to convince people to believe "we gave you an airdrop, love us" vs "you loved us, here's an airdrop"

as mike says, one is clear marketing https://farcaster.xyz/mikedcryptoguy/0x9817eade which is fine! I'm a marketer at heart, people gonna use the tools they have but don't expect to get the same love and affection that, say, Uniswap had when they airdropped when your airdrop is just another line item in the Q2 marketing budget

So true Kenny! But in fairness, incentivizing people to try is pretty established. PayPal famously โ€œairdroppedโ€ $5 to anyone who would try their new way to send money.

Nobody is falling in love for a $5 airdrop. Recently itโ€™s become a simple payment for a window of attention but you need to have something real to back it up if you want that attention to last more than a moment. Itโ€™s an ad network but most of the payment is going direct to users instead.

I'm in the camp of making airdrops more meaningful ๐Ÿ™ The way most projects are going about it is like giving a stranger $10 on the street and expecting them to truly care in reciprocation. Very rarely will this happen, another reason why we value who we trust ๐Ÿ™

The users know which airdrops came from a place of love vs. which airdrops are nothing but gimmicky grifts wrapped up as gratitude. @uniswap, @singularitynet, @optimism, /sankotv were just a few examples of platforms actually caring about their usersโ€ฆ
