I have an extremely hard time believing that those interested in UATX already were then disappointed by a message saying they’re not gonna do woke classes

No I mean my prior perception is just off then if students are actually concerned about it, although I don’t see any specific quotes in that Substack link other than the person writing it. But assume that like 20% of students are going “wow I can’t believe UATX is getting rid of my woke classes I’m so pissed” what’s happening there? How did the university that was created with an intention of not being like other universities attract students that want them to be more like the incumbents?

They don’t have any woke classes. They don’t like the tweet and the communications strategy. They don’t like how this makes them look to the outside world. See my other tweet about how talk like this is cringe and trashy

“Getting rid of” is the wrong thing then but they’re saying “if you want woke classes you’re in the wrong place” which is basically completely aligned with how I think about UATX, it’s an alternative for those who are sick of a standard US college So I’m just surprised that somebody who attends would bristle at it. If it’s coming from the perspective of “you’re comparing yourself to Athens and you’re all erudite and about The Great Books but then you’re engaging in this trashy woke vs based culture war” where they think UATX should just be above it all, then I see the distinction but I think it’s a lost cause. If you’re an “alternate” college that’s not just job focused, and does philosophy or whatever then you will for sure be seen as anti woke, whether it’s true or not, so I don’t see how a different message would do anything
