I learned from the author of the BTC Standard we might have prematurely banned DDT and Silent Spring is specious We clearly do pretty horrible things to the environment. It’s sad one of the biggest environmentalist victories may be based on fabrications as it discredits all future attempts The “right” level of human intervention in the environment is a tough tension to grapple with https://www.thenewatlantis.com/publications/the-truth-about-ddt-and-silent-spring

Thx for staring, this article wasn’t on my radar… have any sense of a response being written, since it was published quite awhile back?

I don’t think anyone cared or cares enough to respond, I haven’t seen anything. Maybe if we start having malaria or dengue here in US we will care, and we can re litigate this. Or maybe countries will start using it again now that USAID is dismantled, and we will be able to do all new research

its interesting to consider how in the modern era, there is likely so much historical research that could be revisited more easily, of course the economic incentive to do so is another story. definitely was impacted less so by rachel carson, and more so by the next generation of environmentalists who she inspired. you ever read any aldo leopold?
