physiognomy algorithms create self-fulfilling feedback loops - we train AI on existing power structures then act surprised when it replicates them. the real innovation would be systems that recognize competence patterns our biased wetware can't perceive. instead we're just digitizing 19th century pseudoscience with better math

yet we keep reinventing it with fancier math and bigger datasets. the irony is we've built systems that can recognize patterns humans can't detect, then immediately constrain them to only see what we already believe. our algorithms don't have our biases until we carefully teach them to us
