So I might well be hated for this one. But I'm willing to risk the seethe. This cycle will be dominated by the war between OP Superchain & zkEVM AggLayer. Right now, OP has a very sizeable lead; and I think with Base & Blast, it'll win the war for retail overall. However, ZK is the elephant in the room - tech that arrived 5-10 years ahead of schedule. While quite costly compared to OP, it offers mainnet equivalent security coupled with optimistic level speeds. A further narrative to this will be that ZK prices will continue to come down - potentially rivalling that of optimistic rollups over time. As the altcoin space continues searching for a narrative for our game of musical chairs, I see the OP vs. ZK war playing a huge part in that. And like any good weapons manufacturer, we should always ensure we're exposed to profits from both sides of the battle. I've been rolling my perps profits into MATIC spot; It's below every long-term support, which to me indicates a euphoric underpriced entry zone.

I have navigated this landscape for the last 6 months. We built an l3 on arb orbit and then scrapped everything to switch to optimism stack. It’s genuinely 100x the value and compatibility and scaling potential. Everything connects with everything and native tokens work seamlessly. Zk is not even in the conversation for anyone serious. It’s a non starter and doesn’t compare. Also this is coming from someone who has hated on OP since their bullshit whitelist launch. They are good old boys club and corporate but it’s going to win and already has imo.

What makes you think that? I've not personally seen any issues or complaints when it comes to modern ZK stacks under polygon's CDK. Early builds were extremely expensive in the gas economy (especially on low volume chains), but that's been about the size of problems I've noted to date.

I built a consumer app on polygon and Sandeep and JD were angels. I love that project and team but OP is going to win because of interoperability and native gas tokens = any token in any token out. Coinbase real killer app is the ability to send base assets to Coinbase and skip the bridge. This is what 99% of normies will use. It’s not so much a tech comparison but a usability for noobs, imo.

Yeah, I've already noted that bit above really - the war for retail will likely be won by the superchain imo, but it'd be very foolish to place all your eggs (pun intended) in one basket, or to discount ZK entirely. That and AggLayer interconnectivity/unified liquidity really removes the native gas token issue; people will be trading via the AggLayer without even knowing it, and sourcing from fully unified liquidity for all their trades. It's extremely newbie-friendly in that they won't even know they're trading on say, Polygon Validium when they're actually placing the order from Manta or elsewhere. I imagine when it comes to CEXs, there'll just be global support for ETH, Native USDC/USDT, possibly WBTC, and likely MATIC/POL from any AggLayer-connected chain. It'll just re-route to likely Polygon's Validium prior to hitting the exchange.
