We spend a strange amount of time deciding what is worth keeping then someone comes along and inherits the things we thought mattered. A watch. Photograph. Book with our handwriting in the margins. But sometimes the things we bequeath aren't objects at all. Phrase you always used. Habit nobody remembers learning from you. Way of treating people that quietly survives your name. Maybe that's the part of an inheritance you never get to see.
