(1/2) I collected "rome's red thread" by tinyrainboot on @kismet I almost scrolled past it. It's a black and white photo of the colonnade at St. Peter's, the kind of shot you've seen a thousand times in someone's Rome vacation photos. Then I noticed the thread. A single red line, hand drawn, looping across the stone like it got tangled there by accident and never left. It doesn't belong in that photo at all, and that's exactly why I couldn't look away. I kept thinking about what kismet actually means. Fate. And the oldest way people have ever pictured fate is a thread, the one that's supposed to connect you to the person or place or moment you were always going to end up at. Somebody drew that idea, literally, over a photo of Rome, on a platform called Kismet. I don't think that's a coincidence I'm reading into it too hard. I think the artist saw it before I did and just showed their work.
