Every workplace has two versions of reality.
The one in the announcement and the one people discuss five minutes later in the hallway.
The second one is usually more interesting.
Someone knows a manager is leaving. Someone heard about a project getting canceled. Someone's cousin's friend "knows for sure."
None of it is official.
All of it somehow travels faster than the memo.
There's an old word for this kind of unofficial current: scuttlebutt.
Funny how the best information has always seemed to gather where people aren't supposed to be having meetings.
