The Federal Supreme Court of Germany (BGH) has reignited the debate about the legality of ad blockers, suggesting they could illegally interfere with copyright-protected elements on websites.
The case pits Axel Springer SE, a major German media publisher, against Eyeo GmbH, developer of Adblock Plus.
This decision could affect not only ad blockers but also other browser extensions that alter web content, such as accessibility or security tools.
Mozilla warns that a ruling against could make Germany the first democratic country to effectively ban ad blockers, restricting user freedoms and innovation.
The resolution is expected within 1-2 years.
