I’m proud that my Substack is No. 20 on the Rising leaderboard for business. It’s immensely satisfying to see something that is a pure reflection of my own tastes and sense of newsworthiness resonate with readers. I remember reading a few years ago, amid the big attempt to cancel the platform for not censoring enough voices on it, that Substack was essentially “reality TV for people who think they’re too smart for reality TV.” In other words, the only way to get ahead was to start beefs with other writers that drama-addicted readers could follow. I have never done that, and have maintained a pretty balanced, journalistic tone throughout the years I’ve written there. It’s heartening to see there’s some merit in doing what you think is right. If you aren’t already signed up, I’d be humbled to earn a spot in your inbox: Kaufman.substack.com

I love seeing someone rise without the drama. Just good writing, clear voice, and consistency.
