proxy wars but the US did defend Kuwait, intervene somewhat in the Iraq-Iran war 1981 I would only expect the US to defend against things which affect US interests, like oil. I would not expect US the align with Saudi on things like Syria policy, Gaza, or even Iran nuclear weapons, because this is not likely to affect the follow of oil, really
