@kagami
any fantasy players here?
kyle mazardo looks like a potential good pickup on the waiver wire (~9% owned)
he’s currently one of the most unlucky hitters (.100 babip and .315 xwoba) while most of his underlying stats remain similar or better than last year
- average exit velo: 92.3 mph vs 90.3 mph last year
- hard hit rate: 45% vs 43.8% last year
- barrel rate: 10% vs 11.8% last year
currently, he’s likely running into issues because:
- launch angle: 13.8 degrees vs 21.2 degrees last year (hitting balls into the ground)
- chase rate + first pitch swing: 30.7% and 35.9% vs 27.4% and 28.1% last year (this + a 45.2% chase contact rate are fueling his 33% k-rate)
if he can fix his plate aggression and launch angle to more of his career norms, he’ll likely run into a hot streak as his number see some reversion to the mean
if your league runs a deeper bench, he might be worth a stash to ride that streak
