this is why top line stats are quite deceiving—jonah cox LOOKS great on paper but he's only 17% better than the average player this year
if you look at some of his underlying metrics:
- over a third of his at-bats are strikeouts (36.4%) which is higher than power hitters like murakami and schwarber
- a 5.3% walk rate which leaves him tied for the 10th lowest rate in the league
- a .463 babip which is way higher than the mlb average (.300)
he's still a demon on the base paths and defensively and outproduced lee on fwar in 1/3 of the games. but his offense, and baserunning value will regress because of those unsustainable metrics without significant contact/discipline improvement next year
