probably the best analytically driven analysis of the brown (jb) trade
- while jb puts up points, he’s not “elite” in terms of scoring efficiency
- jb dropped a career high in assists, but he still shoots far more than “elite” ball handlers based on shots to potential assists per 100 possessions
- jb also saw his turnovers increase (a career high) and led to a much higher scoring turnover rate
based on those analytics, jb’s big year is more a product of volume and high usage than being an elite player
when you look at his super max contract, then he’s getting paid to be an “elite” player, but actually a very good one
this also doesn’t mean jb can’t improve his ball handling, efficiency, or assist ratios in philly. considering his age, there’s a good chance he could make the celtics regret trading him for pg + picks
