Anything worth doing reveals itself to you in layers. Your concept of it is only the first layer

That’s also why the adage is “nothing worth doing is easy” — it’s harder and takes much longer than you expect

But it’s also more textured than you could imagine and frankly, psychedelic

A great perspective — i like this idea that ideas are latent if anyhting. What id add — anything worth doing is not a one way street - its a dance, and you are cocreating (not in control, even if you think you are at times)

More akin to a dance or better yet falling in love - sometimes you’re more ready sometimes the idea is more ready and you have to be in that space and timing where you are both ready at the same time but it doesn’t happen by accident and you can’t force it

I do this often. Recently I was so ready for an idea, and I asked her what we should do next. It responded not yet silly, winked and then left. I was honestly kind of flabbergasted and laughing at the same time 

I think the one thing Rick Rubin knows pretty well is the topography of his aesthetics, I don’t think that’s something that everyone can say about themselves

When I'm at an impasse with a project, sometimes I try speaking to it as if it were alive: What do you want to become? Why are you here? What do you need from me?

Not to go full Rick Rubin on us here, but the answers often surprise me and seem to come from somewhere beyond my day-to-day self.
