It‘s all about liquidity, active risk capital. Too little capital to pump the biggest coins; Need a good business or concentrated effort ($hype) and some outside interest ($zec $tao). Too little interest to pump every shitter, every old DeFi coin; But there’s just enough interest from people with some size that have accumulated and sticked with some new positions like $vvv after the typical post-launch selloff and keep exploring smallcaps or mid caps - can be unrelated news-driven buys but preferably close to ecosystems that are in the center of Attention, aka still at intersection of ai & privacy - and require not much in inflows to gain decent % increase and quickly attract more volumes. Bidding on “Gud coins” with “gud teams” that build something interesting, and preferably have token value accrual via token network, revenues, staking mechanisms.. (just to be surprised of “random” tokens taking off (usually also with a good community supporter base)) Ps: The Perpification, memecoin era, 0-sum mindset has had a big impact on behavior these days - and interestingly Solana, based on, bsc did not get much new competition.
