What happened to intriguing conversations, right?

Agreed. Conversations die when the “other” side is considered bad/immoral for having a different opinion on a subject that is complicated and has room for debate. 

This attitude can often come from both sides at once. If you ever see “it’s not complicated” written out, it’s probably very complicated
