opposite to @downshift.eth "i believe that people will trust algorithms (usually created by for-profit entities to optimize profits) to choose quality content more and more over time". we are a poorly designed species, made by very inefficient and chaotic processes of natural evolution. curating algorithms of the future will be optimized and based on the amounts of knowledge we can never match. nothing human-chosen will be able to compete with their choices. hopefully ASI decides to coevolve with us, at least for some time, and then maybe it will suggest things that help us grow. let's not doubt the abilities of advanced AI-curating entities the same way we once doubted chess-playing machines

i hear that, but i don't think i'll trust the choices in the same way chess and identity are not the same just like i'm more likely to read a book or listen to an album or buy something recommended by a friend who i trust, i want curated content from someone i trust doesn't mean i won't use platforms w algos it means i'll continue to seek out people i trust, and platforms that enable those connections

those are good arguments but at least in the West we all forget how it is to live in the presence of higher beings, like gods and demons even our dead wise ancestors are no longer our companions in life AI can take over all those mystical places, use all our old authority-making strategies, and make curation suggestions that will actually feel for us more and more valuable will you read books recommended by human friends, when books from AI-curators allow you to expand your horizons wider, feel deeper, earn more? at the beginning, for sure. later, who knows? we will see
