hate this take, no offense i didn't even claim mine, i largely consider airdrops to be a promo grift, it's not "free money", it's a new asset worth nothing, which they promote to me to claim so i can dump it on anyone dumb enough to actually invest in the coin. it's only "free money" to me if someone else is naively speculating on the hype cycle and loses their ass. that $2 didn't come from jacob, it came from the community. so i would say the whole community can complain about "free money" when it's actually an orchestrated psyop marketing gimmick (for a fad that didn't last a week) that actively harms my peers.

It’s a completely fair take. But also like…. It’s still something (albeit valueless something depending on your perspective) for free unearned, right. So πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

wrong! jesse and jacob used their platforms to grift the community and thereby devalued the whole industry. it cost us all something.

it's not, plenty of projects don't grift, don't launch their own token, don't depend on dumping on the community this attitude sucks, the grifting and dumping is a cancer, it needs to be treated as such, if you say shit like "this cancer isn't part of the body, the whole body is cancer" you shouldn't be in medicine

Yeah that's why I'm not, I've been "in crypto" for 8 years. It's wholly corrupted. Now I have no interest in seeing this industry succeed. The cryptography advances that have come from it will be used for decades to come but the crypto industry deserves to perish and the tech can move to the background where it belongs.

my guy you're on web3 social? this whole platform is literally contrary to your point? like maybe this would land harder if you weren't posting it on farcaster dont get me wrong, i agree with you largely, ive been in crypto for 12y and im also very fucking done with the grifts and corruption, bc 95% of it is exactly as you say, it's cancer, but im still hopeful that the 5% is good enough to redeem the value of what we do here. to that end, yes, im gonna say "part of the industry" and try to defend the parts that are still valid.

No, the platform has increasingly reinforced my point. The only strategy they seem to have right now to grow is airdrops. I love the people I've met here, and hate the constant trolling on X which is why I'm here, but this platform is only still in existence because of the same VC dynamic that powers most of the crypto industry.

OK agreed on those points, i shouldn't have cited farcaster, i like the protocol but Merkle are in the king cabal grifters. but do you not also found a web3 nft rwa venture? my point is just that there's a difference between "95% bad" and "100% bad". you came in here saying "it's the whole industry" and im only disagreeing insofar as "it's *almost* the whole industry"

Yeah I did, but we've pivoted away from being crypto at all because the promises haven't been fulfilled- there isn't any thriving interoperability, a billion users with self custody wallets, privacy protocols with mass adoption. So the crypto is in the background just like SSL and users benefit

to me, that puts you in the 5%. you're using crypto(i think ? first you say pivoting out entirely, then you say crupto in the bg) without grifting people. that's awesome, i want to see more of that. wishing you luck! and meanwhile, yes, i think jesse and jacob and $zora make you and me and everyone else on farcaster and "crypto in background" look bad, doing millions in reputational harm. so ill keep calling out clownhood as i see it.

Fair enough. To me, I don't call Facebook a crypto app because it uses SSL and double ratchet encryption for DMs. So I don't consider Courtyard a crypto app because it uses a public blockchain as a ledger. But I can agree that's a matter of semantics.

now we are splitting hairs, for sure, but fwiw you call Facebook an internet app because it uses SSL, which is an internet transport mechanism Facebook doesn't "use crypto industry" because SSL is "internet industry", not "crypto industry" if Facebook stored my messages on a public ledger, in the background, it would certainly be a crypto app
