Trump Wants to Bring Manufacturing Back to the U.S. But Is That Realistic? Donald Trump is once again promising to bring factories and jobs back to America. His plan includes high tariffs and tough trade policies. But in reality, the U.S. still depends on cheap labor overseas and immigrant workers at home. Take the company Saitex as an example. In 2021, it opened a jeans factory in Los Angeles with 250 workers making about 70,000 pairs of jeans a month. But most of its production about 90% still happens in Vietnam, where labor is cheaper and the supply chain is much stronger. Trump’s tariffs on Vietnam (up to 46%) were supposed to bring production back to the U.S., but they often hurt companies instead. Businesses like Saitex rely on global supply chains and may shift their focus to other markets like Europe if it becomes too hard to operate in the U.S. NYT P.s. No rational manufacturer will invest in moving production when tariff rules change every week.

I feel like he’s trying to manipulate and pressure other countries to accept tariff rates that he considers acceptable. But no one is really afraid.
