The concept of generalist was reborn as the desperate measure for desperate times. World War II (Sept 1, 1939 - Sept 2, 1945) was a desperate time in history and needed a quick fix measure for the casualties caused (physically and psychologically) and as a result of the intense public outcry, there was the generalist (family medicine) concept which fully took effect two decades after. The idea was probably there but humans won’t take actions towards a goal until there is a desperate need to.
