Disney drops $1B on OpenAI: Mickey, Marvel and Star Wars go full AI Disney is investing 1 billion dollars into OpenAI and signing a three year licensing deal that lets Sora and ChatGPT Images generate short, user prompted videos and images featuring more than 200 characters from Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars. Starting in early 2026, fan made Sora clips with these characters will roll out, with curated selections actually streaming on Disney+.​ Disney is also becoming a major OpenAI customer, using its APIs and ChatGPT to power new tools and experiences for Disney+ and for employees, while keeping talent likenesses and voices strictly off limits. One of the biggest content factories on the planet is basically admitting that generative AI is now part of the pipeline, and that’s a historic shift for entertainment.
