I got to feel and see this deeply back in 2009. 

My first massage clinic was inside a luxury retirement community. We're talking cruise ship on land level. 

Now yes the therapy I was trained to do could help with many aches and pains for the elderly. However, the driving interest for the residents to get a massage was to have physical touch and human connection. 

One particular session will always stay with me forever. 

She was 87 years old. She was recommended but skeptical by one of her friends who lived in the community. During the massage, she just wept and wept. 

I asked her with empathy. Why she was weeping so much. She said I have not been touched by another human with love and care like this for 15 years. I wept with her. In fact, thinking about this experience makes me tear up now. 

There are so many people searching for connection and to be touched. Especially our beloved older generations 🙏
