If the medium is the message, then the medium through which you work matters just as much as the message you hope to deliver. 

In your career, this means you need to figure out (1) the mission you hope to achieve, and (2) the vehicle through which you’ll achieve it. 

You can start on one without figuring out the other, but if you aren’t actively working to align both in the long-run, your impact will be limited.
