It's the second volume (3 books) of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I read this as a  youngster and I'm re-reading it via audio book. I finished the first volume last year and after finishing a couple books recently realized it was time to revisit, continue the series.

oh nice I’ve only watched the movies - my dad is also a fan of the Lord of the rings! 

might need to check the books at some point too

The audiobooks I'm listening to are the unabridged versions of the books, so they're identical.  The benefit is listening to the narrator sing some of the songs.
