Oymyakon: cold weather If you ever find yourself in the Oymyakonsky ulus of the Sakha Republic, check out Oymyakon. The village lies on the left bank of the Indigirka River, about 30 kilometers northwest of the Tomtor settlement, and is known as one of the “Pole of Cold” on the planet. The population of Oymyakon is about 500 people. This village is not only one of the most remote, but also one of the coldest places on the planet. The temperature in winter falls to -50 °С and below. Of course, the permafrost reigns, but it is quiet.
