The village lies on the left bank of the Indigirka River, about 30 kilometers northwest of the Tomtor settlement, and is known as one of the “Pole of Cold” on the planet. The population of Oymyakon is about 500 people. This village is not only one of the most remote, but also one of the coldest places on the planet. The temperature in winter falls to -50 °С and below. There are about 40,000 people living on the island of Socotra. There are two roads, but there is no public transportation. The fauna and flora of Socotra are unique, it is even called a botanical paradise.
