this is a good thread from @bayardo on the current state of @base fees and path forward. he's nuanced and measured, as i'd expect our core protocol leader to be. 

i want to share a less nuanced perspective:

1. we need to scale the @base EVM >1000x
2. we need to do this with urgency
3. the time to start is right now

shared my perspective on scaling @base - would love thoughts from other /op-stack teams.

No matter how much we vertically scale a single chain, we will never be able to fit the entire world into it. This is why native interop - we need to rethink how we write smart contract systems so they can be deployed in a horizontally scalable way

We pushed the limits on OP mainnet in 2021, and even now with our own OP stack we had to make some tradeoffs that I'd prefer not to have made. Would be even worse if we were sharing that gas limit w/ thousands of other teams.

Definitely need to figure out ways to increase gas limits if you want strong, onchain guarantees as a standard for new finance. 

We've always pushed the boundaries at Lyra wrt gas, performing critical, comp-heavy Black Scholes calculations onchain.

Base is making the feasibility mainstream smart contract usage for the masses so close! I think we are finally gonna start seeing some applications which improve lives for normies this cycle. That is the goal.
