I’ve been a dau on Farcaster for over 2 years. Before this, I was completely oblivious to the blockchain and decentralized social media. Long had I been disenfranchised by traditional social media to the point where I hadn’t logged into any of them for years. It was a simple Coinbase quest that got me here. The airdrops did keep me around at first, but they eventually dwindled and went away. I’ve come to realize that I’m here because of the people and the fascinating things they were/are working on. Truly though, I was a total noob. I tried to do that whole Satoshi’s Secret thing where you had to answer 10 increasingly difficult questions. It took hours of research for me to even understand the questions and hours more for me to be able to answer some of them. Back then, Internet money was flying everywhere on Farcaster and it was dizzying. I was dazed at my increasing wallet balance for doing pretty much nothing. Except I was doing something - I was meeting new people and learning every day as Farcaster just keep iterating and getting better. I had to ask @nounishprof what a DAO was at FarCon in Venice. She laughed and then realized I was serious. That’s how much of a noob I was. 🤣 I joined every channel when they were first introduced. I tipped warps. I was also one of the very fortunate people who received the initial $HIGHER allocation. My allocation was valued in the hundreds right away over the next several days, it was valued in the thousands. By sometime in March 2024, that initial HIGHER allocation was worth tens of thousands of dollars. I still remember opening my wallet and seeing my higher alloc valued at $74,000+. This was my first genuine moonshot before I even knew what that was or meant. This was an aberration of the highest magnitude, to the likes I’ve never seen in my life. I showed my wife and she didn’t believe me. She called it fake internet money. Well, shockingly, I actually took some profits by swapping $10,000 for ETH. This was used to support devs buidling on Farcaster. At the time, @corbin.eth was buidling King of the Degens and I was very happy to support this. Over the years, I’ve supported many other projects on Farcaster and plan to continue doing so through /betr 😎
I have been irrevocably changed by Hollywood and couldn’t be the happier for it. Before “May the 4th Be With You” became a thing that some would celebrate, I was a Star Wars fan. I was too young to see Lucas’s original trilogy in the theaters, but I saw them on TV afterwards and rented the VHS tapes from Blockbuster over and over again. A generation of teenage boys fell in love with Carrie Fisher after seeing her in the 1983 Return of the Jedi movie as “Slave Leia”. The very next year, James Cameron’s Terminator movie would come out. The year after that, two teenage boys would hack into a government mainframe and create Lisa in the movie, Weird Science. The Revenge of the Nerds movies would later characterize those who transitioned early to the brave new world of PCs as “geeks”. However, I knew even back then that my idiosyncratic penchant toward emerging technologies would gain steam and that proverbial train would start carrying more and more of us into the future. My professional career has been a joyride since my formative years and in some small part, I have the movies to thank for it. So, it shouldn’t be surprising that on Star Wars Day, I will respond to all “May the 4th Be With Yous” with the expected response “And Also With You.” 🙏 On my desk at work today:
My mom was one of the smartest people I know. She passed some time ago. School always came very easily for her. She scored a 1597 on her SAT. She received her degrees from prestigious universities, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, and got her doctorate in Psychology. Her primary focus was on abused children and mothers. When my siblings and I were growing up, the dolls we’d had were anatomically correct so they could be used in her practice to help children and their moms through their trauma. It helped the little kids to communicate where they were touched. Most were low income and couldn’t afford the sessions. My mom helped them anyway in many untold acts of altruism. I was a teenager at the time and was horrified at how young the boys and girls were. Of the seemingly countless disturbing things in this world, sexual abuse of children has got to rank up there as some of the most heinous acts a human can do to another human.
Omg I only thought my life was complete until I saw “wen?” On the back. 😲🤯🤩 $BETR believe it! Thank you /mintedmerch !!!
