Systemic issues are exceptionally challenging to address because they are well, systemic. In Wayseeker’s cast below, we see Dr. Oz’s concerns about expectant mothers in rural areas not getting sufficient health care - and how this is some shocking news. It’s about as new as the socio-economic tiers are in America. Throwing money at the problem won’t hurt, but it needs to be part of an ongoing comprehensive effort. Why are rural areas depressed? Why are some adults working entry level jobs their whole lives? Why did corporate America need to address DEI in the first place? Why Rodney King? Why was Ahmaud Arbery killed? Why did the Black Lives Matter movement gain so much momentum? And how do we live in such a world that allows these atrocities and grotesqueries to happen over and over? I cannot reconcile this and brood over how we collectively will ever overcome our ocean-wide schisms as human beings.

BBQing chicken legs, hot dogs, and hamburgers in mid-May. Does it get much better than this? I’m an ardent aficionado of the grilling arts and have spent hours out in the yard grilling up meats and veggies for family and friends during the summers. I’m no expert by any means, but I can cook some very edible food. 🍔🌭🍗🍖🌽🥦🥩🥕🍄‍🟫🧅🫑🌶️ Any requests? 😄

I’ve been a dau on Farcaster for over 2 years. Before this, I was completely oblivious to the blockchain and decentralized social media. Long had I been disenfranchised by traditional social media to the point where I hadn’t logged into any of them for years. It was a simple Coinbase quest that got me here. The airdrops did keep me around at first, but they eventually dwindled and went away. I’ve come to realize that I’m here because of the people and the fascinating things they were/are working on. Truly though, I was a total noob. I tried to do that whole Satoshi’s Secret thing where you had to answer 10 increasingly difficult questions. It took hours of research for me to even understand the questions and hours more for me to be able to answer some of them. Back then, Internet money was flying everywhere on Farcaster and it was dizzying. I was dazed at my increasing wallet balance for doing pretty much nothing. Except I was doing something - I was meeting new people and learning every day as Farcaster just keep iterating and getting better. I had to ask @nounishprof what a DAO was at FarCon in Venice. She laughed and then realized I was serious. That’s how much of a noob I was. 🤣 I joined every channel when they were first introduced. I tipped warps. I was also one of the very fortunate people who received the initial $HIGHER allocation. My allocation was valued in the hundreds right away over the next several days, it was valued in the thousands. By sometime in March 2024, that initial HIGHER allocation was worth tens of thousands of dollars. I still remember opening my wallet and seeing my higher alloc valued at $74,000+. This was my first genuine moonshot before I even knew what that was or meant. This was an aberration of the highest magnitude, to the likes I’ve never seen in my life. I showed my wife and she didn’t believe me. She called it fake internet money. Well, shockingly, I actually took some profits by swapping $10,000 for ETH. This was used to support devs buidling on Farcaster. At the time, @corbin.eth was buidling King of the Degens and I was very happy to support this. Over the years, I’ve supported many other projects on Farcaster and plan to continue doing so through /betr 😎

I have been irrevocably changed by Hollywood and couldn’t be the happier for it. Before “May the 4th Be With You” became a thing that some would celebrate, I was a Star Wars fan. I was too young to see Lucas’s original trilogy in the theaters, but I saw them on TV afterwards and rented the VHS tapes from Blockbuster over and over again. A generation of teenage boys fell in love with Carrie Fisher after seeing her in the 1983 Return of the Jedi movie as “Slave Leia”. The very next year, James Cameron’s Terminator movie would come out. The year after that, two teenage boys would hack into a government mainframe and create Lisa in the movie, Weird Science. The Revenge of the Nerds movies would later characterize those who transitioned early to the brave new world of PCs as “geeks”. However, I knew even back then that my idiosyncratic penchant toward emerging technologies would gain steam and that proverbial train would start carrying more and more of us into the future. My professional career has been a joyride since my formative years and in some small part, I have the movies to thank for it. So, it shouldn’t be surprising that on Star Wars Day, I will respond to all “May the 4th Be With Yous” with the expected response “And Also With You.” 🙏 On my desk at work today:

My 11 yo is an avid reader. We frequently go to the library and sometimes to Barnes and Noble bookstore to buy her age-appropriate books for her age and reading level. She’s partial to books that are in a comic book format where each page is a series of small frames within which illustrated characters are interacting and when they speak, there are word bubbles indicating who is speaking. Barnes and Nobles sells many of these types of books. My daughter chose one and it was over 200-pages long. I read the first few pages and it was about friends going to some summer camp at a lake with a bunch of other kids. There were camp counselors at the camp directing activities for many groups of kids. It all seemed innocuous enough. Well, my 11 yo daughter kept reading the book over and over from front to back and I wondered what the draw was to keep her coming back for more. So, I read the entire book. It only took about 30 mins or so. To my surprise, about 100 pages into the book, one of the boys was hurting himself because he didn’t know how to deal with his feelings. 150 pages into the book, it got into two very young boys around 10 years old who were best friends discovering they have non-platonic feelings for each other. These topics were not disclosed on the face or inside cover of the book. They were far from conspicuous and there was zero indication from the illustrations or anywhere else that self-harm and exploration of homosexuality. This is what adulting is like today. This is the last time I’m accepting guilt or shame from anyone for accusing me of being a helicopter parent. Be ready to talk with your young children about difficult topics perhaps much sooner than you’d hoped. From Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Goodnight Moon to self-harm, suicidal thoughts about drowning, and sexuality - all within the space of kindergarten to sixth grade. Good luck to all you parents out there.
