The great Oscar Wilde observed that “with age comes wisdom, but sometimes age comes alone.”
How many of us have witnessed proof of this with our national and local politicians? Perhaps with teachers and peers? Dare I say that even within our own family trees it does not necessarily follow that being older equates to being wiser. There are many things about which I’m woefully ignorant and thankfully, I’m cognizant enough to recognize this. This isn’t humility or at least if saying that I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about is being humble, then feel free to color me that.
If you find yourself falling anywhere near this camp, then there are at least two paths from here. Stay blissfully ignorant. Or learn something new. When I’m feeling ambitious, I choose to rage against the dying of the light. To walk the road less traveled. And maybe along the way, if extremely lucky, gain a tiny nugget of wisdom.
