Ponderous Thoughts and Feedback
I just took a Ponder survey to provide feedback and felt like I had more to give. So, here are my thoughts and a somewhat faithful summary of certain discussions in the Ponder group chat.
On Creating Ponders:
When creating Ponders, there should be a validation for duplicates that shows how many times that Ponder or a variation of it has been published. I donât suggest that duplicates are prevented, but a submitter might think twice if they knew it was previously posted.
On Trending and Featured Casts:
Consider putting an embedded countdown timer in that particular Ponder tile if the countdown is 8 hours or less. Today, the countdown is only visible when looking at the Ponder details.
On Voting:
Once a vote is cast, consider allowing the person to change their vote and bid amount within 5 minutes of submitting the vote as long as the Ponder End time is 8 hours or greater. Sometimes, I unintentionally choose an option I didnât mean to choose and it would be user-friendly if, within limits, I could change it.
On Not Voting:
Today, if a Ponderer wants to follow the results of a Ponder, but doesnât necessarily want to vote on it, when that Ponder ends, it disappears from view. This is because there are only two tabs in Ponder now: Trending and Voted. Trending shows active Ponders that the user hasnât voted on. Voted shows active and closed Ponders that the user had voted on. What about the Ponders that are closed and the user hasnât voted on them? Those Ponders are unavailable to that user to view because they didnât vote. Consider modifying the âVotedâ tab to show all â Completedâ Ponders. If the user voted on it, it can show much they won or lost. If the user didnât vote on it, at least the voter would still be able to tap on it to see the details of that Ponder.
After Voting:
After youâve voted on a Ponder, you can scroll down past your answers and see the next 3 Ponders. If there was a more prominent button to see the full list, that could keep the user engaged and in the miniapp instead of the potential action of closing the miniapp and re-opening it to see the full list of Ponders instead of just the last 3.
On Prize Pools:
Maybe itâs just me, but I find the projected winnings are a bit misleading. If I bet $0.50 and win, it says I win $0.54, but really Iâm getting my initial 50 cents back plus an additional 4 cents. The advertised DEGEN won on @ace âs Perl games was like that too. Yes, itâs good Iâm getting my money back - just consider an asterisk next to the projected winnings with a small print footnote at the bottom which reads âwin back initial investment plus a split of the prize pool with the other winners.â
On Collusion and Poll Skewing:
It takes some of the fun out of Pondering when bots or people with multiple accounts try to skew results. I donât know if anything can be done about that, but Iâm putting it out there for consideration. The comments and replies under each Ponder can be used to try to skew results as well. Some of us have discussed ideas surrounding this. The idea of hiding comments until the Ponder ends would address the issues stemming from said comments, but weâd lose some of the debate that happens while the Ponder is still running. Also, when the Ponder is over, most of your audience has already moved on. Maybe if/when the Ponder AI bot gets smart enough, it might mitigate collusion/skewing in the comments and replies. Otherwise, maybe the Ponder team can hire an intern to check for blatant offenders.
On Ponder Notifications:
Would it be possible to have individuals opt-in or out of Ponder notifications? Also, what if the notifications were further delineated? For instance, an opt-in notification that a Ponder you havenât voted on is ending soon. Or an opt-in notification that a Ponder you have voted on is ending soon and what the projected amount will be if their answer wins.
On Searching Old or Archived Ponders:
World it be possible to include search functionality so users could search for Old Ponders, see all of the community answers, and which answers won or lost? It could be a way for users to determine the last time a certain Ponder was active. This could encourage higher caliber Ponders in the future.
On Growing the Ponder family:
The /ponder channel shouldnât auto-cast every Ponder (too spammy), but consider auto-casting Trending Ponders and the ones that âPonder Surveysâ created with a cast update to show the Prize Pool eight hours before the Ponder ends. Include comments and engagement on those Ponders in the channel so even people who donât use the app daily might see the discourse and discussion and perhaps invite them to engage more. Also, what if someone cast a weekly summary of all Ponder results in the /Ponder channel as a recap for the community to see what they mightâve missed.
Upon reflection, all of this might be beyond the scope of what a âminiappâ isâŠeventually with enough bells and whistles, the miniapp will evolve into a full app!
