As a parent of pre-teen/teenage kids, I get to listen to a bunch of pop songs filled with lyrics dripping with teenage angst.
Sometimes they’re about unrequited love.
Sometimes they’re about relationships gone wrong by two kids who haven’t learned how to have healthy relationships yet.
Sometimes they’re raging against the world’s injustices with equal measures of grievance and indignant exasperation.
“Why didn’t you fix pollution already? Now, WE have to deal with this?!”
I love their indomitable spirit and how every problem can be solved by their generation because parents just don’t understand. Thank you DJ Jazzy Jeff for that one. I’m rooting for their generation to solve some of these global issues.
Anyway, I figured I’d learn one of these songs for my kids. Have you heard, “Vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo? Here’s the first page of the sheet music. I did warn you about the angst. 😄
